Build up to the playoffs: Final week of BBL!

By the end of this week all teams in the British Basketball League would have completed all of their scheduled games. Surprisingly enough with only 2 games remaining for 8 of the 10 teams only two league positions are set in stone the first being Leicester Riders who secured their first place finish with a win over Manchester giants earlier this month. With a weeks break which most likely involved some celebrations, the champions continued to show impressive form as they dismantled the London Lions 103-67 in yesterdays matchup. The other guarantee was bottom place Surrey Scorchers with their 4 points in 22 games so far leaving to much of a gap to makeup.

In terms of the Giants they currently sit in 3rd position with games against Sheffield Sharks and London Lions, its possible that the Manchester based club could climb up to second or even drop down to 7th showing just how important these last two fixtures could be. The Giants have guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and what fans will be even more glad to hear is that they also cannot matchup against the Leicester Riders who with only 2 losses this season seem like an impossible matchup in the eventual aggregate series. An interesting possibility is also the fact the London Lions (who play the giants in the last game of the season) have a game in hand meaning for both teams final game of the season it could be all to play for with a win securing the better finish for either team. With all this in mind there are three likely options I personally see the Giants matching up against come the playoffs depending on how they perform. If results go well and they hold the 3rd place they could matchup either Glasgow Rocks or Cheshire Phoenix (whoever finishes 6th place). Or if results don't go there way a #4 vs #5 series against the Bristol Flyers.
