The Manchester Titans are an American football team based in Manchester, England currently competing in the BAFA national leagues premier division North which is the highest level of British American Football. They currently play at the National Speedway stadium in Gorton, Manchester which has a capacity of 3700. They play in Blue and Gold jerseys with blue helmets. Their head coach is Jon Homer and General Manager Liam Twigg
The club were founded in 2003 after the city had been without an American Football team since the 1990’s. The formation of the club was inspired by the film, ‘Remember The Titans’, and was founded by local players who had been travelling out of Manchester to play their football. The players were frustrated with having to travel to play so felt they should start a team locally to prevent this. Although formed in 2003, they were given BAFA status in 2005 after being restructured with new coaching staff and players, after withdrawing from the league in order to restructure.
The Titans have managed to secure 3 division titles, in 2009, 2015 and 2017. They have also managed to reach the playoffs on 6 separate occasions, in 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 meaning they managed to secure playoffs five years on the run.
The Titans are one of the biggest teams in the UK, with an extensive set up of teams throughout the club including teams at adult contact, adult flag, women’s contact, women’s flag, U19 contact, U17 North and South contact teams, U17 flag and U12 flag. They also have a partnership to run a team at The Manchester College. The Titans were awarded the title ‘British American Football Program of the Year’ in both 2016 and 2017. In 2018, the Titans announced they were going to add a second team into the BAFA national league setup, named ‘The Manchester Titans Bees’. The team began their formation in 2019 and entered the BAFA associate level.
The women’s team has been at the forefront of the growth of the women’s game. They were one of the founding members of the women’s premier division in 2015, making the semi-finals in 2017 and 2018 making them ranked the 4th best team in Britain. Titan’s players Sian Perry, Louise Fitzsimmons, Emily Parkinson and Sian Kersse have all represented Great Britain at both the 2015 European championships and the 2017 World Cup.
