Manchester Giants visit the SGS WISE Arena to take on 8th seed Bristol Flyers in the BBL Championship for the second time this season. The Bristol Scorchers enter today’s game being 2-8 in their last 10(0.200). In their previous meeting the Giants were defeated by the Flyers in a 23 point blowout at the start of last month. After a 6 days rest period the Giants will be looking to make up for their upsetting loss against the 6th seeded Glasgow Rocks who stole the game in the 4th quarter after losing the each of the first 3. (Full time score 100-99 Rocks). Giants Head coach Lloyd Gardner said in an interview (Available on the Giants Instagram @mcrgiants) he’s very happy with his team’s offensive abilities on the road but with 5 of their last 7 games of the season coming away from home he needs his team to perform a lot better on the defensive side as “any team on the road cannot expect to win when letting in 100 points”.

Key players to look out for in today’s game are 25 year old point guard Tyrik Armstrong who put up a stat line of 17 points, 3 rebounds and 12 assists while shooting at a very efficient rate of (54/60/100) (FG%/3P%/FT%) in 34 minutes of playing time. Tyrik also leads the Giants in season points and assists per game so won’t be someone the Flyers won’t be expecting to put on an impressive performance. In terms of lead players for the Bristol Flyers in another fellow American point guard in the form of Markus Evans who averages 15.8 points and 5.1 assists over his 14 games this season

Coming to the end of the season now you see games starting to mean increasingly to each team as they tussle to secure the best possible playoff spot and give them a favourable matchup. After yesterday’s results Manchester Giants Dropped down to the 4th seeding behind the Sharks and Lions. A win could see them temporarily move to the second seed on points however the Sharks and Lions would be 2 and 3 games behind, respectively. For the Bristol Flyers a win in this game would give the fans a confidence boost in their hopes for the playoffs as they currently occupy the lowest qualifying spot on the table however with 3 games less than the two teams only 2 points ahead the Flyers could very easily climb up the ranking to get a more favourable matchup in the first round of the playoffs before the end of the season.
